Ryan Ayers is a former Notre Dame men's basketball player. He graduated from Notre Dame in 2009.
As of Monday morning, he's also a former Notre Dame assistant coach.
Ayers, who spent four seasons on coach Mike Brey's staff, will not return in 2020-21. The Notre Dame athletic communications office issued a 19-word release Monday saying that Ayers "is no longer a member of the Notre Dame men's basketball program."
It also said that Ayers was pursuing other opportunities.
An athletic department spokesman said there will be no further comment.
Former Irish small forward Scott Martin, who spent the 2019-20 season as development and recruiting coordinator, will serve as interim assistant coach this season.
Ayers averaged 6.5 points and 2.4 rebounds in 117 career games. Prior to returning to Notre Dame in 2016, Ayers spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Bucknell. He joined the Notre Dame staff after former Irish guard/assistant coach Martin Ingelsby left to become head coach at the University of Delaware.
