Notre Dame has unofficially made its new assistant coach hires with John McNulty for tight ends and Mike Mickens for cornerbacks, the NFL Scouting Combine starts next week and spring football will be here shortly after that.

But before winter morphs into spring, Tyler James and Eric Hansen wanted to bring a national perspective to the podcast to talk Notre Dame football. To do that they invited Stewart Mandel, editor-in-chief of The Athletic College Football and a long-time national college football writer, onto the show.

Mandel joined the podcast to discuss the NCAA exploring transfer waivers and the potential repercussions, Notre Dame’s offseason staff hires, if the Irish can win a national championship in the next decade, Ian Book’s place among the top quarterbacks in the country and more (1:37).

Then Tyler James and Eric Hansen made NFL Combine predictions in the Place Your Bets segment (27:38) before answering questions from Twitter (34:28).
