Matt Farrell and Martinas Geben wanted to leave lasting impressions with their games last week at the annual Portsmouth (Va.) Invitational Tournament, an NBA pre-draft showcase for 64 college seniors.
Both likely did.
Farrell averaged 12.0 points, 5.7 assists and 0.3 steals in 27.3 minutes over three games. He shot .412 percent from the field and .471 percent from 3. His 5.7 assists tied for seventh. His eight 3-pointers tied for fourth. He also finished with a 3.4 assist/turnover ratio. His team went 2-1 and finished fourth in the eight-team tournament.
Geben averaged 10.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in 23.7 minutes over three games. He shot .481 percent from the field and .545 percent from the foul line. His average of 3.0 offensive rebounds per game tied for fifth. His team went 2-1 and finished second.
Farrell and Geben each saved their best games for their last games. Farrell had 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists in 33 minutes in his finale. Geben went for 13 points, eight rebounds and an assist in 22. Both will await a possible invitation to next month’s NBA combine in Chicago heading into the two-round NBA draft on June 21.
