Notre Dame’s Anna Rohrer, a Mishawaka product, has run her way into the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which start June 6 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Rohrer joined Annie Heffernan and Nate Richartz of the Irish in qualifying on a hot, and briefly stormy, night in the Tampa, Florida east preliminaries Thursday.

Rohrer and Heffernan qualified in the 10,000m, but didn’t actually hit the track until 10:25 p.m. ET after a lightning delay. The pair were first and second for more than half of the race. Rohrer finished second (33:54.15) and Heffernan made a push to earn 12th (34:23.92) for the final qualifying spot. Dorcas Wasike of Louisville won in 33:46.35. Heffernan earned the final spot by a second.

Richartz entered the day with the third best pole vault of the preliminary qualifiers when he cleared 5.70m (18-8.5) at the ACC Championships. He cleared shorter heights of 5.25m and 5.35m Thursday to tie for sixth. He returns to the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row.
