Host Kentucky ruined Notre Dame’s NCAA Softball Tournament, beating the Irish on consecutive days, 10-0 Saturday night in five innings and 8-0 Sunday afternoon to advance to the Super Regional with a 35-19 mark.
Earlier Sunday, the Irish knocked out Michigan, 2-1.
Kentucky’s Grace Baalman two-hit the Irish Saturday, improving to 13-8. ND’s starter, Alexis Holloway was knocked around for five hits and six runs.
Kentucky’s Rachael Metzger hit a pinch-hit grand slam to highlight a six-run fourth inning.
Notre Dame rallied from a run down in the sixth to beat Michigan (44-13) Sunday.
Cait Brooks and Melissa Rochford had RBIs and Rochford had two of ND’s six hits.
Holloway (22-14) went the distance, allowing four hits and an earned run. She walked four and struck out two.
In the final game of the day, Kentucky’s Erin Rethlake allowed only one hit, that to Abby Sweet. Brooks took the loss, leaving after 1 2/3 innings.
ND closes at 34-23.
