The Liverpool Football Club will bring soccer to Notre Dame Stadium on July 19.

Notre Dame Stadium will host a competitive soccer match for the first time in its 90-year history when the Liverpool Football Club faces Borussia Dortmund on July 19 (8 p.m. EDT).

Coach Jurgen Klopp’s team, which competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English soccer, will also play at Fenway Park in Boston (July 21 vs. Sevilla FC) and Yankee Stadium in New York (July 24 vs. Sporting CP) as part of their preseason preparations.

“Preseason tour is an important time of the year for our first team to prepare for the upcoming season while also providing the opportunity to bring the first team to our fans around the world,” said Billy Hogan, managing director and chief commercial officer of Liverpool FC.

“We’re heading to three incredible locations this year. Each of the stadiums has their own deep-rooted heritage similar to our own, and we’ll face three great opposition teams.’’

A natural grass pitch will be installed for the match by Bush Turf Farms (Louisville, Ky.), with installation beginning early the week of the event.

While in the USA, the club will also take an active role in local community projects in each of the three locations visited.

“This is a perfect event for Notre Dame,” ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick said, “in that it combines iconic sport brands, celebrates a sport that is of great importance to us as evidenced by our four NCAA soccer titles and addresses the growing international reach of our university.”
