It's never too early to start looking ahead.

ESPN certainly prescribes to that theory, as reporter Mark Schlabach published his preliminary preseason top 25 rankings for the 2015 college football season on Monday.

Notre Dame came in at No. 12. The Irish return nearly all their starters from a team that finished 8-5 in 2014.

Four of Notre Dame's opponents in the 2015 season appear in the top 25: USC (5), Clemson (10), Georgia Tech (18) and Stanford (23).

Reigning national champion Ohio State landed at No. 1 in Schlabach's rankings.
