SOUTH BEND — The University of Notre Dame athletics department plans to create a fan council.

Applications are being accepted for the council for the 2015-2016 academic year.

The fan council will include students, alumni and non-alumni, and represent a cross-section of fans from Notre Dame's athletic programs, the university announced Monday. Members will serve for one academic year, beginning in July 2015.

Meetings will cover topics that impact fan engagement and will feature guest speakers from the Notre Dame athletics administration and coaching staff. The council will assist the athletics department in evaluating and enhancing the fan experience at Fighting Irish athletic events.

The group will convene quarterly on campus, and members will have the opportunity to provide feedback from their personal experiences attending Notre Dame events.
