Welcome to Watch List season.

On Tuesday, Notre Dame center Nick Martin was named to the spring watch list for the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation's top collegiate center.

Martin, a graduate student in 2015, has started 24 of the 37 games he has played in in hid Irish career. He started all 13 games in 2014, but split time between center and left guard.

A 2014 co-captain, Martin will slide back to his natural position of center in 2015, where he has registered 14 career starts. He  started at center in each of the first three games of last season (Rice, Michigan and Purdue), but was forced to move to left guard before the 31-15 victory over Syracuse to solidify the left side of the Irish offensive line.

Martin, who was also a Rimington Trophy Watch List selection a year ago, started each of the first 11 games of the 2013 campaign at center, but was lost for the season against BYU on Nov. 23 due to a knee injury. He helped an offensive line that allowed just eight sacks and ranked second in the Football Bowl Subdivision in fewest sacks allowed. In fact, no team in the nation allowed fewer sacks and attempted more passes than Notre Dame (eight sacks on 429 pass attempts) in 2013.
