Ahmir Mitchell is visiting Notre Dame this week.

And here's why that matters.

Mitchell — a 6-foot-3, 203-pound wide receiver from Egg Harbor City, N.J. — caught 47 passes for 881 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, while amassing a total of 1,448 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns. The consensus four-star prospect owns scholarship offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and of course, Notre Dame.

And obviously, those schools offered Mitchell for a reason. The 2016 prospect is ranked as the No. 3 player in the state of New Jersey, the No. 8 wide receiver in the country and the No. 51 overall prospect by Rivals, as well as the No. 3 player in New Jersey, the No. 8 player at the "athlete" position nationally and the No. 104 overall prospect by 247Sports.

If he were to pledge to the Irish (which few are expecting at this stage), Mitchell would become Notre Dame's second wide receiver commit in the 2016 class, joining Florida wide receiver Kevin Stepherson.

For now, though, Brian Kelly and Co. can only hope that he enjoys his visit.
