Kyle Brindza couldn’t unseat nine-year veteran kicker Matt Prater as the Detroit Lions’ No. 1 kicker, but he did enough to get a chance to do so elsewhere.

On Monday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded for the undrafted rookie from Notre Dame, shipping tight end Tom Wright to the Lions.

The 6-foot, 239-pound Brindza, who can also punt, nailed all three of his field goal attempts in preseason play for the Lions, including a long try of 51 yards. He had punted for a 49.3-yard average.

The two existing kickers on the Tampa Bay roster, veterans Patrick Murray and Connor Barth, have both struggled this preseason, with Murray missing three of his five tries and Barth missing his only attempt.
