Everett Golson named starting QB at Florida State

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher previously said Everett Golson wasn't guaranteed to be the starting quarterback following his graduate transfer from Notre Dame.
He waited until Monday to give Golson the job most assumed he would earn. Golson will start Saturday when the Seminoles take on Texas State, Fisher announced five days before the season opener.
Golson beat out redshirt junior Sean Maguire, who started one game last season and appeared in three others in relief of Jameis Winston. Maguire completed 25 of his 49 passes for 339 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions on the year.
Golson, a 6-foot, 200-pound product of Myrtle Beach, S.C., brought with him a roller coaster resume from Notre Dame. He helped guide the Irish to the national championship game with an undefeated regular season in 2012 as a sophomore. He missed the 2013 season because of an academic suspension and returned in 2014 to start all 12 regular season games.
A turnover-riddled season ended with Malik Zaire getting his first career start in the Music City Bowl and marked the unofficial end of the Golson era. He finished his senior season at Notre Dame 256-of-427 passing for 3,445 yards and 29 touchdowns with 14 interceptions.
Golson left the Irish following his graduation in May despite a remaining year of eligibility.
