Brian Kelly named Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has been selected as The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week, officials from the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl announced Tuesday.
The award honors the coach whose program embodies The Dodd Trophy’s three pillars: scholarship, leadership and integrity, while also enjoying success on the field during the previous week. No. 8 Notre Dame (7-1) hit the road and secured a 24-20 victory over No. 21 Temple at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday.
“Notre Dame student-athletes consistently perform at a high level on and off the field and you can credit Coach Kelly for a big part of that,” Jim Terry, Chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation, said in a statement.
“They just won a tough road game against a top-25 opponent to keep themselves in contention for what looks like to be an exciting finish to the season. Combine that with some of the nation’s best graduation rates and a passion for giving back to the community through the Kelly Cares Foundation and it is reflective of the type of person and leader Brian Kelly is.”
The Irish return to Pennsylvania for a road game at Pittsburgh at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
