Christmas might come a few hours early for the Notre Dame coaching staff.

Cornerback Troy Pride Jr. — a 6-foot, 165-pound prospect from Greer, S.C. — announced on Twitter on Sunday that he will make a verbal commitment on Christmas Eve. The former Virginia Tech commit is considering Notre Dame, Clemson, North Carolina, NC State and the aforementioned Hokies, among others.

Pride, who was offered by in-state heavyweight Clemson on Dec. 17, is ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 23 cornerback nationally by 247Sports, as well as a three-star recruit and the No. 32 corner in the 2016 class by Rivals.

Pride made an official visit to South Bend for the USC game on Oct. 17. Four other recruits who made official visits for the rivalry game — defensive back Devin Studstill, linebacker Daelin Hayes, running back Deon McIntosh and defensive end Khalid Kareem — have since committed to the Irish.

Notre Dame already claims six defensive back commitments in its 2016 class, with coveted targets Damar Hamlin and Jordan Fuller still undecided.
