A decision is coming for defensive end recruit Jaelen Phillips.

Unfortunately for Notre Dame, it will come before the talented target steps foot on campus.

Fresh off a weekend trip to UCLA, Phillips plans to make his commitment Thursday at 3 p.m. EDT. He will chose from Notre Dame, Stanford, UCLA, USC and Washington. The timing of his announcement puts good odds on Phillips becoming a Bruin.

While the Irish are little more than an impressive name on his list, it does indicate that Phillips has high interest in the program. Notre Dame will likely still push Phillips to consider a visit to South Bend in the future.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Phillips tallied 76 tackles and 10.5 sacks in his junior season at Redlands (Calif.) East Valley.

247Sports slates Phillips as a five-star recruit and the top weakside defensive end in the 2017 class. Rivals ranks him as a four-star prospect and the No. 11 outside linebacker in the class.
