Notre Dame remains in contention to add some of the nation’s top prep offensive linemen to an already impressive 2017 contingent, but one of them got away on Friday.

Wyatt Davis, the nation’s No. 1 offensive guard prospect per both Rivals and 247Sports, announced his verbal commitment to Ohio State on Friday. Notre Dame and Michigan were his other finalists.

Davis, a 6-foot-4, 328-pound rising senior from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, is a 5-star prospect, according to Rivals, and the No. 18 recruit regardless of position. 247Sports dubs Davis a four-star prospect and the No. 25 player in the 2017 class nationally.

Davis teamed with Irish freshman safety D.J. Morgan last season.
