Notre Dame DE target Hunter Echols commits to USC
IRISH STEW
If Notre Dame's coaching staff fell asleep early Friday night, the Irish will be waking up to some bad news on the recruiting trail before starting practice at camp in Culver, Ind.
Hunter Echols, a four-star defensive end in the 2017 class, announced his verbal commitment to USC at 11:30 p.m. EDT. The former UCLA commit shared his Trojan pledge on Twitter.
The 6-foot-4, 232-pound product of Los Angeles Cathedral visited Notre Dame in June for the Irish Invasion and dropped his commitment to UCLA in late July. Echols had expressed an interest in returning to Notre Dame for an official visit this fall.
Rivals ranks Echols as the No. 4 weakside defensive end in the 2017 class. 247Sports slates him 12th at the position.
