Notre Dame ranked No. 12 in preseason Sports Illustrated poll

The polls keep rolling in.

Sports Illustrated ranked Notre Dame No. 12 in its preseason top 25, which was released on Wednesday.

The Irish were sandwiched by their only two 2016 opponents to make the SI rankings: Stanford at No. 11 and Michigan State at No. 13.

Last week, Notre Dame was ranked No. 9 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll.

Five teams with at least three losses in 2015 were ranked ahead of Notre Dame: Florida State (No. 3), Michigan (No. 4), LSU (No. 5), Washington (No. 7) and Tennessee (No. 10). 

Reigning national champion Alabama earned the No. 1 ranking, while 2015 runner-up Clemson grabbed the No. 2 spot.

Notre Dame opens its 2016 season at Texas on Sept. 4.
