#NDInsider Twitter Chatter: Notre Dame-Texas

IRISH STEW

Tyler James
South Bend Tribune

Twitter can be a fun (or depressing) and brutally honest (or unreasonable) place during Notre Dame football games. That's why we open up this space for the #NDInsider Twitter Chatter after every game.

During the game, readers are encouraged to send their thoughts and observations with the #NDInsider hashtag to be considered for our postgame fan recap.

The bursts of 140-character takes were plentiful during Notre Dame's 50-47 loss to Texas on Sunday. Here's a look back at how it unfolded on Twitter.

The enthusiasm started early with Notre Dame scoring first on a 13-yard touchdown pass from DeShone Kizer to Equanimeous St. Brown. The Irish only needed one drive to find the end zone.

2 and a half minutes. A couple of big plays. TOUCHDOWN IRISH! #NDInsider#WelcomeBack

Guess Eq is ready to play #ndinsider...I like how we came out strong...let's keep it up

But when the Irish offense sputtered on its next two drives, fans already started to question the quarterback rotation through 15 minutes of play. Notre Dame and Texas remained tied at 7 at the end of the first quarter.

I really don't like the switch up in QB's...it feels choppy watching it...can only imagine being one of the players smh #ndinsider

@TJamesNDI stick to one QB #ndinsider

— Mia San Dan (@danparkins9) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI not a fan of the switching QB every series... #NDInsider

— Richard Mills (@RichardMills_) September 5, 2016

@TJamesND yeah, not a fan of the way both QBs are being played. Stick with one. #NDInsider

Need to get the WRs involved in the game. #NotreDame#NDInsider

— Bill Gilligan (@irishfan357) September 5, 2016

If the opinions on Notre Dame's quarterback situation were strong after one quarter, the thoughts on Notre Dame's defense expressed by Irish fans were even more distressing.

Glad to see Brian Van Gorder figured this out over the summer uggh #GoIRISH#NDInsider

#NDInsider We need a new DC. We consistently under perform given the talent we have.

— Zach Whickcar (@Coach_Whickcar) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI BVG and defense not stopping tempo. AGAIN. #NDInsider

— Jonathan Finch (@jtfinch) September 5, 2016

If vangorder has a job tomorrow Kelly needs a CAT scan #NDInsider#NDvsTex

— Travis (@travissparkman1) September 5, 2016

With Notre Dame trailing 21-14 at half, the focus stayed on the quarterbacks and defense for many fans.

@TJamesNDI#NDInsider No designed runs for the "running QB" seems odd? Or just me

— Chris Kosiak (@C_K_42) September 5, 2016

Have we been out coached on both sides of the ball? #NDInsider

@TJamesNDI ND offense needs to have some long drives or the defense will be gassed by the 4th quarter... #NDInsider

— Paul_In_Maple (@CLE_CLCFan) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI#NDInsider Gonna be a long night year if ND can't tackle or cover receivers. #GoIrishBeatTexas

— Jim MacDonald (@_jimmacdonald) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI Hoping for some better form and tackling on D and for Kizer to be under center for the remainder. #NDInsider

— Th3Bill (@Th3Bill) September 5, 2016

#NDInsider D looks like Swiss cheese. And come on BK, stick w Kizer

— Diane Sherlock (@Diane_Sherlock) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI Kizer has to be the man this half #NDInsider

@TJamesNDI scary how bad the secondary was getting beat. Need to get to QB without blitzing. Stick with Kizer. #NDInsider

— Michael Gerth (@MVGerth) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI@TJamesNDI They will never become a legit top 5 program with this ridiculous defensive scheme #NDInsider

— Rich Marazzi (@RichMarazzi) September 5, 2016

#NDInsider - If only there were some prior hint that Van Gorder's D struggles with up-tempo and gives up big plays... #GroundhogDay

— Chappy (@Chappy1972) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI#NDInsider our poor safety play difference in the game right now

— Nick Small (@nsmalls24) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI how long will it take BVG to walk home? #NDinsider

— BeatTexas (@PastorBano) September 5, 2016

The third quarter saw Kizer finally stick in at quarterback and the Irish pulled within three points on a touchdown drive started by a Shaun Crawford interception. Some optimism started to return once the 17-point deficit was nearly erased.

Umm @CoachBrianKelly KIZER has accounted for ALL THREE scores. He plays the rest of the game, I've decided. #NDInsider

BVG says Zaire should go in next series #NotreDame#NDInsider

— Rob Ebert (@RobEbert) September 5, 2016

THAT'S MY STARTING QB RIGHT THERE!!!!! Let Kizer take the reins BK #ndinsider

— CDN (@cdn515) September 5, 2016

INTERCEPTED!!!!!!! First turnover of the game in favor of ND! HUGE!!!! #NDInsider

— Stephanie Winters (@sb_hastings) September 5, 2016

The drama of Notre Dame's comeback was washed away when Texas quarterback Tyrone Swoopes scored in double overtime to send the Longhorns into celebration mode. Texas fans might have found hope for the 2016 season. Many of the Irish faithful were left with more questions than answers. Even the media was thrown under the bus.

Thoughts. Awful missed call. Terrible tackling. CBs cannot be left on an island. KIZER is the starter. GG Texas #TEXvsND#NDInsider

Notre Dame has to wait 365 days to be relevant again. #depressing#NDInsider

— Rob Ebert (@RobEbert) September 5, 2016

Things I learned tonight. Never trust the local media covering practice . Had me thinking we were gonna be better on D #NDInsider

— bbakertn (@bbakertn) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI#NDInsider BK found his QB, BVG needs to find a pass rush, DB's are only as good as the pass rush. Also, too many missed tackles

— Bobby Reed (@BobbyReed25) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI#NDInsider 1) Can't tackle 2)Can't rush the passer 3)Can't cover 4)Kizer needs to use the TEs more 5)BVG should explain himself

— Ed Dwyer (@EDwye) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI with that D, this is an 8 win team at best and that's assuming a lot of shootout wins. #NDInsider

— Ryan Dunbar (@irishdodger) September 5, 2016

Notre Dame's last 3 games. L 38-36, L 44-28 & L 50-47. Defense has given up 132 points. Defense is the problem #NotreDame#NDInsider

— Joel DeLorge (@JoelDeLorge) September 5, 2016

@TJamesNDI@TJamesNDI Blame coaching or poor schemes all you want, but tackling, tackling, tackling was terrible. #NDInsider

— JDub (@jWeez08) September 5, 2016

@NDFootball tired of watching this team bounce back. Why not try winning the first time around? #NDInsider#NDvsTex
