#NDInsider Twitter Chatter: Notre Dame-Navy
IRISH STEW
Twitter can be a fun (or depressing) and brutally honest (or unreasonable) place during Notre Dame football games. That's why we open up this space for the #NDInsider Twitter Chatter after games.
During the game, readers are encouraged to send their thoughts and observations with the #NDInsider hashtag to be considered for our postgame fan recap. They joined us with their 140-character takes during the game.
It started with a reminder that Notre Dame entered the season giving the No. 1 jersey to a different player every game. When Michigan passed Notre Dame on the all-time winning percentage list in after the loss to Duke, the Irish dropped the short-lived tradition. It embodies how almost everything has gone wrong for Notre Dame this season.
@TJamesNDI What happened to the #1 jersey? Haven't seen anyone wear it in awhile. #NDInsider

The first quarter started with successful touchdown drives for both teams. On Notre Dame’s second drive, the Irish would settle for a field goal for a 10-7 lead.
That's how you start! #NDInsider#NDvsNAVY

hate the Navy game annually..triple option is annoying..they bleed the clock & its hard to trash talk the military lol #ndinsider

Greer Martini would help Notre Dame’s defense force a turnover on downs from Navy, which would be a rarity on Saturday. He finished the game with 11 tackles. After Notre Dame punted, Navy put together its second touchdown drive to take a 14-10 lead. Notre Dame then responded with a touchdown drive powered by 66 rushing yards.
I Don't always drink martini but when I do it's usually against the triple option #NDInsider

Anyone tired of fact BK refuses to run ball often?? #NDInsider#GoIrish#NotreDame

.@TJamesNDI this is gonna be on Kizer..can't miss that TD to Stepherson and should be picking this secondary apart! #NDInsider#GoIrish

With Notre Dame taking a 17-14 lead into halftime, I asked Irish fans for their reactions and hopes for the second half. It prompted the first questions about Irish defensive tackle Jarron Jones, who was used sparingly a week after dominating the Miami offensive line.
@TJamesNDI where is Jarron Jones #NDInsider
— Craig Harris (@craig10361) November 5, 2016
#NDInsider excellent final drive. Got points and didn't give Navy time. And they did it with....running the ball.
— Adam Schlutt (@bigmaac24) November 5, 2016
@TJamesNDI#NDinsider like running on first, like the pass pro, like no INTs, like leading. Love lamp:)

Need to see fewer yards per carry by the Mids #NDInsider
— Jerry Maloney (@gmaloney234) November 5, 2016
@TJamesNDI#NDInsider accuracy from Kizer. Had a chance to go up 17-7, missed it. And some stops. I'll take some stops.
— Jeff (@DubbDubbs) November 5, 2016
@TJamesNDI@EHansenNDI I want to see better passing from Kizer. And better run blocking. And I want to see TFL on defense. #NDInsider

@TJamesNDI Quicker tempo on offense. Get Adams involved. #NDinsider

The back-and-forth scoring continued in the third quarter with Navy striking first with a touchdown and Notre Dame coming back with a touchdown reception by Equanimeous St. Brown. But the third quarter was hijacked by Notre Dame being penalized upon review for 12 men on the field when Navy punted the ball. So even though the Notre Dame defense made a stand, the Navy offense was able to stay on the field and continue a drive that would carry into the fourth quarter.
Not stopping Navy in 3rd and long will be the death of me #NDInsider

St. Brown will be a special player for several years only getting better! DK doesnt deserve the HATE by so called "fans" #GoIrish#NDInsider

Navy capitalized on the Notre Dame penalty with another touchdown from Will Worth to take a 28-24 lead. The Irish moved the ball down the field on the ensuing drive, but the offense stalled when DeShone Kizer missed on a pair of throws, his first two incompletions of the half. Instead of attempting a fourth-and-4, head coach Brian Kelly elected to kick a field goal with 7:28 left to cut the deficit to one. Unfortunately for the Irish, their offense wouldn’t get the ball back.
Kizer is going to need to clean up the quick throw if he wants to play in the NFL. Soars them high. #NDInsider

What's with all the accuracy issues from Kizer today..are all those balls on him or is there somethin goin on with the receivers #NDInsider
— CDN (@cdn515) November 5, 2016
I like Kizer but I don't understand all the love for him. Not a 1st round QB in my opinion. #NDvsNAVY#NDInsider

No discipline. Terrible coaching. This season in a nutshell. Beyond disappointing. #NDInsider

The 28-27 loss to Navy dropped Notre Dame’s season record to 3-6. Some Notre Dame fans started to question the program’s leadership with early losses in the season. As the failures have piled up, the patience for many fans has worn thin with little evidence that this Notre Dame team has improved.
@TJamesNDI There goes the Belk Bowl. #NDInsider

Someone should tell BK his defense is terrible and to stop relying on them for stops late in a game #NotreDame#NDInsider

#NDInsider Poor coaching all season, bad decisions in a hurricane and today was the icing on the cake. Time to say goodbye to Brian Kelly

#NDInsider Brian Kelly is stubborn and needs to go. Keeps relying on D at the end of games. Makes absolutely no sense.
— ⚓Jefe⚓ (@Uptown_Crowned) November 5, 2016
#NDInsider Another bad decision by Kelly to have ND kick field goal and another bad special teams play sink ND.
— Norm (@BellNorm) November 5, 2016
@TJamesNDI Unreal Kelly decides to kick FG when the defense hasn't stopped Navy all day. Another disappointment by Kelly. #NDInsider
— Greg Ritter (@ccsaints71) November 5, 2016
Like ND's, my defense (of Kelly) is overmatched. Only reason he shouldn't be fired is there is no one better to get right now. #NDinsider
— Michael (@CreenMJ) November 5, 2016
@TJamesNDI there has to be a point where Jack recants his support for Kelly, right? RIGHT?! #NDInsider
— tom whalen (@strongstufftom) November 5, 2016
@TJamesNDI#NDInsider someone explain to me why once again we expected the D to stop someone with game on the line? Go on 4th down!

@TJamesNDI#NDInsider is the season over yet?
— Johnny Brodbeck (@jbrodbeck819) November 5, 2016
Time to stop playing Navy. No credit if win, clearly can lose/tough to coach/boring to watch/injuries. No 3op D plan after 20yrs? #NDInsider
— Michael (@CreenMJ) November 5, 2016
#NDInsider can't blame a young defense. Bad offensive game plan. Poor decisions at critical points. Penalties. Recipe for an L.
— NDPhinsFan (@MDDeBord) November 5, 2016
2007 team would run up the score on this team #NDInsider
— jason stamm (@HerLoyalSon) November 5, 2016
@TJamesNDI An #ND coach in his 7th yr who loses to Navy shouldn't get an 8th. But recognize his unnecessary 6yr extension. #NDInsider.
