Notre Dame's 2017 football season is still nearly a year away.

But why wait?

The Irish named seven team captains at the team's Echoes awards banquet on Friday: quarterback DeShone Kizer, linebacker Greer Martini, offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey, linebacker Nyles Morgan, offensive guard Quenton Nelson, safety Drue Tranquill and wide receiver Austin Webster.

The inclusion of Kizer — the team's 6-foot-5, 230-pound junior quarterback — is not an indication that he will return for the 2017 season, a Notre Dame spokesperson confirmed. Kizer is weighing the possibility of declaring for the 2017 NFL Draft. McGlinchey and Nelson both also recently requested feedback from the NFL Draft Advisory Board.

McGlinchey — a 6-8, 310-pound senior — is the group's only two-time captain. Webster is the first walk-on to be named a team captain in Notre Dame history.
