2017 QB commit Avery Davis reaffirms loyalty to Notre Dame
IRISH STEW
Avery Davis' eyes aren't wandering.
Three factors have led some to believe that Davis — a 5-foot-11, 192-pound 2017 Notre Dame quarterback commit — might be tempted to consider other programs instead of signing with the Irish in February:
- Notre Dame offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Sanford, who was also Davis' primary recruiter, was hired as Western Kentucky's head coach on Wednesday.
- On Tuesday, Baylor — an in-state power — offered Davis a scholarship.
- Baylor then hired Davis' high school head coach, Joey McGuire, on Wednesday.
Despite all of that, however, Davis reaffirmed his commitment to Notre Dame with two tweets on Wednesday night.
"To clear all the hype & confusion, I am solid with Notre Dame. Nothing has changed for me nor will it. #Go Irish," Davis tweeted.
He then added: "im not doing interviews because there's no reason. my stance never changed".
A consensus three-star prospect from Cedar Hill High School in Cedar Hill, Texas, Davis is the only quarterback commit in Notre Dame's 2017 class. He was on campus last weekend for the program's annual Echoes awards banquet.
