For a brief amount of time following the commitment of offensive lineman John Dirksen, Scout ranked Notre Dame’s 2018 recruiting class No. 1 in the country.

The time on top was short-lived. Since Sunday, Miami and Penn State haven both added commitments and leapfrogged the Irish.

But Notre Dame’s ranking at No. 3 nationally was solidified on Wednesday with Scout’s updated ranking of the top 300 players in the 2018 class. Eight Irish commits received spots on the list.

Quarterback Phil Jurkovec, at No. 49 overall, landed the top spot in Notre Dame’s class. Scout ranks him as the No. 5 quarterback in the country.

Safety Derrik Allen and wide receiver Braden Lenzy were also placed inside the top 100. Allen, at No. 95 overall, ranks as the No. 12 safety in the class. Lenzy, at No. 97 overall, has been pegged as the No. 6 athlete.

Linebacker Bo Bauer (No. 177 overall, No. 14 OLB), offensive lineman John Dirksen (No. 191 overall, No. 8 OG), running back Markese Stepp (No. 196 overall, No. 12 RB), defensive tackle Jayson Ademilola (No. 207 overall, No. 19 DT), and cornerback Kalon Gervin (No. 294 overall, No. 26 CB) also made the Scout 300.

The previously mentioned recruits and linebacker Ovie Oghoufo are rated as four-star recruits by Scout. Defensive end Justin Ademilola, wide receiver Micah Jones and offensive lineman Cole Mabry have all been given three-star status.

Miami, Scout’s top-ranked class, includes 15 commits and 10 four-star recruits. Penn State, at No. 2 overall, consists of one five-star recruit, six four-star recruits and five three-star recruits. LSU, ranked No. 4, is the only other class with 12 commitments, five of which are four-star recruits.
