Notre Dame’s 2018 recruiting class has drawn plenty of praise.

The 12-man unit is considered one of the best early collections of talent in the country. Yet the new rankings released by ESPN on Thursday show not everyone is as high on the Irish class.

ESPN ranked only four Notre Dame commits in its newly updated Top 300 for the 2018 class.

Derrik Allen received the top spot for the Irish class at No. 69 overall as the No. 4 safety. Quarterback Phil Jurkovec was slated No. 113 overall as the No. 9 pocket passer. Markese Stepp was pegged at No. 218 overall as the No. 13 running back. And wide receiver Braden Lenzy was ranked at No. 250 overall as the No. 25 athlete.

The three other major recruiting services — Rivals, 247Sports and Scout — have ranked at least six Notre Dame commits in the top 300 of their rankings.

ESPN has positioned Notre Dame’s class at No. 7 in the country with seven four-star recruits and five three-star recruits. The other three recruiting services slate the Irish in the top five — Rivals and Scout at No. 3 and 247Sports at No. 4.
