Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly to be honored at Vitale Gala for cancer research
Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly will be one of three honorees May 12 in Sarasota, Fla., at the 12th Annual Dick Vitale Gala supporting the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
The event will draw hundreds of supporters to The Ritz Carlton Sarasota to further groundbreaking advancements in pediatric cancer research. The event is expected to raise $3 million.
Kelly will be honored for co-founding The Kelly Cares Foundation with wife Paqui. The wide-ranging charity was inspired by Paqui being a two-time breast cancer survivor and the desire to give back.
West Virginia men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins and ESPN Hall of Fame Sportscaster Chris Berman will be the other honorees.
Among the expected attendees with Notre Dame ties for the sold-out event Irish men’s basketball coach Mike Brey along with former ND football players Willie Clark, Ron Powlus, Jeff Faine and Renaldo Wynn.
Throughout the evening, the late John Saunders, founding member of the V Foundation’s Board of Directors and 10-time emcee of the Dick Vitale Gala, will also be remembered fondly for his dedication to achieving victory over cancer.
