College football is coming, but watch lists come first.

On Friday, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy — which honors college football's best defensive player — released its preseason watch list, and Notre Dame senior linebacker Nyles Morgan made the cut. The Outland Trophy — which is awarded to the nation's premier interior lineman (with offensive tackles being included) — also announced its preseason watch list, and Irish left tackle Mike McGlinchey and left guard Quenton Nelson were included.

Morgan — a 6-foot-1, 238-pound senior — led the Irish with 94 tackles and four sacks in 2016, in his first season as Notre Dame's full-time starting middle linebacker. A first-time captain, Morgan is expected to lead the way in the middle of first-year defensive coordinator Mike Elko's 4-2-5 defense.

A 6-8, 312-pound graduate student, McGlinchey will start for the second consecutive season at the left tackle position in 2017. The two-time Irish captain will again line up next to Nelson — a 6-5, 329-pound senior and a fellow captain.

The watch lists for the Butkus Award (linebacker), the Biletnikoff Award (receiver), the Davey O'Brien Award (quarterback), the Doak Walker Award (running back) and the Walter Camp Award (nation's most outstanding player) will be announced next week.
