SOUTH BEND — A 57-year-old man from Noble County died Sunday at Memorial Hospital after falling on a sidewalk at the University of Notre Dame shortly before last Saturday's football game.

The man was identified as Michael Hile, of Ligonier, Ind.

Hile was taken off life support about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Steve Dixon, also of Ligonier, a friend who drove Hile to South Bend on Saturday. The two men had planned to attend the Notre Dame-North Carolina State football game together.

Hile died from a traumatic brain injury caused by the fall, deputy county coroner Dave Yoder said Wednesday. The death was ruled an accident.
