#NDInsider Twitter Chatter: Notre Dame-Miami

IRISH STEW

Tyler James
South Bend Tribune

Twitter can be a fun (or depressing) and brutally honest (or unreasonable) place during Notre Dame football games. That's why we open up this space for the #NDInsider Twitter Chatter after games.

During the game, readers are encouraged to send their thoughts and observations with the #NDInsider hashtag to be considered for our postgame fan recap. They joined us with their 140-character takes during the game.

Confidence was high before Notre Dame took the field against Miami in Hard Rock Stadium. Most Irish fans submitting score predictions picked a Notre Dame victory. So did I. Boy, were we wrong.

I'll get things rolling with a score prediction. I'm taking #NotreDame 34, Miami 27. What say you? As always, send it with the #NDInsider hashtag. I'll lose the tweets if you don't include the hashtag.

The game started precariously for Notre Dame with quarterback Brandon Wimbush nearly throwing an interception twice on the first drive. But it turned out the nine-play, 35-yard drive that ended in a punt would be Notre Dame's best in the first quarter.

Miami eventually scored first on a seven-yard touchdown reception from Malik Rosier to Braxton Berrios. Then Wimbush threw an actual interception to Jaquan Johnson. The Hurricanes responded with a 16-yard touchdown run by Rosier.

Miami led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter with an ignited home crowd.

— Reilly Lamp (@Reilly_Lamp) November 12, 2017

Play calling is too cute, need to keep pounding it. Wimbush has zero confidence and is done already. Defense on the field too much to keep it close. It's over. #NDInsider

— Dude Abides (@SlumpBuster1978) November 12, 2017

Wimbush looks rattled. Have to make those throws if you want to be a championship team. Needs to settle down #NDInsider

ND looks completely lost right now. This is like the start to the Clemson game a couple of years ago. Elko and Long need to make some quick adjustments. #ndinsider

#ndinsider. Erratic QB play, no o-line push, and shoddy D. Other than that, ND looks good.

Reminiscent of the National Championship. Coaching takes offense out of what they so best, then loses momentum, then the team. #NDInsider

With Notre Dame trailing 17-0 in the middle of the second quarter, Wimbush threw his second interception to Malek Young to give Miami the ball at Notre Dame's nine-yard line. The Irish defense managed to hold Miami to another field goal on that possession for a 20-0 score.

Wimbush need to be benched. Game is too big for him. He can’t control his emotions in the passing game. Ian Book please #NDInsider

— Nick Gonzalez (@nickg1421) November 12, 2017

The Miami turnover chain is completely obnoxious and unnecessary. #NDInsider

— Stephanie Winters (@stephie_winters) November 12, 2017

Ian Book replaced Wimbush on the next drive, but he didn't fare much better than Wimbush. His first drive lasted just three plays. After moving the ball 50 yards on the following drive, Book threw an interception to Trajan Bandy, who returned it 65 yards for a touchdown.

The Irish trailed 27-0 after a first half where nearly nothing went right.

#NDInsider had hopes of making playoffs but truth is we’re too one dimensional. One year too soon. Wimbush needs to develop as a passer. Too bad we won’t have as good as an O-line next year

There wasn't much relief to be found in the second half for the Irish. Miami scored on the first drive of the third quarter to extend the lead to 34-0. Notre Dame would finally score late in the third quarter on a pass from Wimbush to tight end Alizé Mack.

I would say my team gave up but that would mean that they ever showed up...I have no idea where their heads have been from snap 1...crazy #NDInsider

— Cocosnapslife (@cdn515) November 12, 2017

Don’t want to hear how fast Miami was - Irish didn’t show up PERIOD #NotreDameFootball#NDInsider

— Kevin Hastings (@KevinIrishndhas) November 12, 2017

How in the hell did this happen? ND is not this bad and Miami is not this good. I just don't get it. #NDInsider

— Brian Barber (@KeyserSozeSays) November 12, 2017

Miami finished Notre Dame's playoff hopes with a 41-8 beatdown. The lopsided loss brought back memories of Notre Dame's last trip to Miami Gardens when the Irish lost to Alabama 42-14 in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game. Nearly no one was interested in finding bright spots in such an embarrassing loss.

Just pathetic #NDInsider

— Mike (@mbyrnesy20) November 12, 2017

Turnovers were huge but similar to the Georgia game, Notre Dame took far too long to adjust from slower developing running plays. Overall, ND outplayed. #NDInsider#NDvsMIA

— John_Skrynecki (@John_Skrynecki) November 12, 2017

Wimbush still struggles to do basic stuff. Game was too big for him. Speed continues to kill ND and McGlinche. Dominated all game. Hopefully stay in top 10. #NDInsider

Notre Dame is overrated #NDInsider

— FireSandyAlderson (@Fuhgedabouhdit) November 12, 2017

— Olivier Daoust (@OliDaoust) November 12, 2017

Lifelong fan here but ND has now proven multiple times they aren't championship material in last 20 years. 'Bama continues to be the standard. #NDInsider

— PAUL (@NDPaulSixOne235) November 12, 2017

Miami impressed me with their speed, but isn’t it always on the biggest stages that ND’s offensive line looks overrated, Kelly looks like he’s been out-coached, and the moment in general looks too big for his team? Doesn’t help when your QB(s) have complete meltdowns #NDInsider

— Dylan M. LeBlanc (@DylanMLeBlanc) November 12, 2017

The QB position is a major issue.

McGlinchey is no first rounder.

Adams is clearly not healthy.

Not showing up like tonight falls squarely on the head coach. #NDInsider

— Les Lukach (@LesLukach) November 12, 2017

Typical BK in big time games. Clearly no adjustment to faster defenses from GA game. Dexter needed to be the RB. Wimbush continues to miss wide open deep balls that can change games. Irish showed no toughness at all. #NDInsider

Typical Brian Kelly ND Team: not prepared for the bright lights and Top 10 teams. A recurring theme. #NDinsider

— Mr. Sarcasm (@sarcasm4_u) November 12, 2017

Something to ponder @NDFootball fans, @MiamiHurricanes fans SHOWED up and were electric in supporting THEIR home team tonight. ND/Georgia game, not so much #NDInsider#NDvsMIA

— Joel DeLorge (@JoelDeLorge) November 12, 2017

OLine isn't as good as advertised. McGlinchey isn't an elite lineman. Hainsey played awful. Wimbush was running for his life. Defense is taking fall but they played well considering the situations they were put in. Once again, we are expected to be happy being average #NDInsider

— A.M. Michaels (@A_M__Michaels) November 12, 2017

#NDInsider It should be obvious after seven years and only two 10 win seasons that Kelly isnt the right coach to bring ND back to greatness
