Retired football official Terry McAulay is joining NBC Sports as an on-air rules analyst for the network's Notre Dame football telecasts, beginning Sept. 1.

He’ll also serve in that role for NBC’s Sunday Night Football and Football Night in America

McAulay served as coordinator of football officiating for American Athletic/Big East Conference for past 10 years. He also served as a referee for the last 17 of his 20 NFL seasons (1998-2017), previously serving as a side judge and a field judge.

He led the officiating crew in three Super Bowls (XXXIX, XLIII, and XLVIII) and worked 15 additional NFL playoff games.

“We look forward to Terry joining our team and adding his officiating expertise to our NFL and Notre Dame coverage,” said Fred Gaudelli, Executive Producer of NBC Sunday Night Football. “In 29 years producing primetime NFL games, I never worked with a finer official than Terry McAulay."
