#NDInsider Twitter Chatter: Notre Dame-Florida State
IRISH STEW
Twitter can be a fun (or depressing) and brutally honest (or unreasonable) place during Notre Dame football games. That's why we open up this space for the #NDInsider Twitter Chatter following games.
During the game, readers are encouraged to send their thoughts and observations with the #NDInsider hashtag to be considered for our postgame fan recap. They joined us with their 280-character takes during the game.
With starting quarterback Ian Book sidelined with a rib injury, senior Brandon Wimbush made his return to Notre Dame's starting offense on his Senior Night against Florida State.
Wimbush didn't have to wait long to make an impact. Irish nickelback Nick Coleman intercepted a pass on the second play of the game to give the offense the ball. Then Wimbush hit wide receiver Miles Boykin for a three-yard touchdown reception.
Wimbush followed that up with a six-yard touchdown pass to tight end Alizé Mack on Notre Dame's next drive for an early 14-0 lead.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Two plays, huge moves from the defense and the place is ROCKIN! #NDInsider

Two drives, 2TDs by @NDFootball@WimbushB7 looks incredible tonight. Love how this kid has handled this season and is taking his chance to shine.
Keep it up, boys!

*whispers* wimbush looks like he's gotten better at passing...don't want to say it too loud and jinx anything...there's a lot of game left #NDInsider#GoIrish#FSUvsND

Notre Dame tacked on a field goal to extend the lead to 17-0 before the end of the first quarter. Fifteen minutes in, Wimbush looked capable of leading the Irish to a comfortable victory.
Managing the game well. Still throwing up prayers though. He's showing that he's capable but still clearly the #2 QB. #NDInsider

Even when Florida State finally scored in the second quarter, the Seminoles still managed to mess something up. Irish defensive tackle Jerry Tillery blocked the extra point attempt and cornerback Julian Love returned it for two points.
Notre Dame's offense did the rest of the scoring in the quarter with running back Dexter Williams busting out for a 58-yard touchdown run and Mack hauling in another touchdown pass from Wimbush.
Florida State could start worry about its travel home after trailing 32-6 at halftime.

Favorite part is the commentators complaining they can’t see the numbers on jerseys. Love the jerseys and the stealth ness effect. Go Irish ☘️ #NDinsider

Wimbush and Mack are a dynamic passing attack combo. Said no one ever, until tonight. Feel good for those guys. #NDInsider

The fact that we have a multi dimensional offense that can be scary good ... run game, balanced with wide receivers and TE’s, and QB(s) that can take off at anytime #NDInsider

Florida State couldn't manage to put much game pressure on the Irish despite intercepting Wimbush twice. The defense only allowed one touchdown in the second half, and Williams added another touchdown to his 202-yard performance.
Wimbush completed 12 of his 25 passes (48 percent) for 130 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions. He also rushed 12 times for 68 yards.
Would love to see Wimbush finish it off. #NDInsider

It feels so wrong to say but I’m tired and this game is taking forever can we just do a mercy rule and go to bed? #NDInsider

After a 42-13 victory, the Irish are just two victories away from likely securing a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Hats off to this senior class. Way to end a perfect home season. I’ve been Wimbush’s biggest critic, but I couldn’t be more happy for that young man. #pureclass#GoIrish#BeatNoles#NDInsiderpic.twitter.com/TNfyJZJHpX
