#NDInsider Twitter Chatter: Notre Dame-Iowa State
Twitter can be a fun (or depressing) and brutally honest (or unreasonable) place during Notre Dame football games. That's why we open up this space for the #NDInsider Twitter Chatter following games.
During the game, readers are encouraged to send their thoughts and observations with the #NDInsider hashtag to be considered for our postgame fan recap. They joined us with their 280-character takes during the game.
Quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees didn't have to wait long to call his first play against Iowa State. The Irish won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff.
Then Notre Dame's first drive ended in just three plays. But safety Alohi Gilman wanted the offense to have another crack at scoring, so he stripped punt returner Tarique Milton and wide receiver Chase Claypool recovered the fumble. The Irish turned the turnover into a field goal.
Following another Iowa State turnover, a fumble by quarterback Brock Purdy forced and recovered by Notre Dame rover Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, the Irish built a 10-0 lead. Quarterback Ian Book connected with wide receiver Chase Claypool for a 24-yard touchdown on third-and-12.
So much for not being focused. Notre Dame led 10-0 less than 12 minutes into the game.
