FWAA names Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton to Freshman All-America team
On the final day of the college football season, Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton received one more honor.
On Monday, the Football Writers Association of America named Hamilton as one of 32 players on its Freshman All-America team for the 2019 season.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Hamilton previously received Freshman All-American recognition by USA TODAY, The Athletic, ESPN, Pro Football Focus and 247Sports.
As a true freshman, Hamilton led Notre Dame with four interceptions, including one returned for a 34-yard touchdown in the home opener against New Mexico. Hamilton finished seventh on the team with 41 tackles despite only starting one of the 13 games he played. With the departures of senior safeties Alohi Gilman and Jalen Elliott, Hamilton will take a full-time starting role next season.
Hamilton quickly met the high expectations given to him as a recruit out of Atlanta Marist. 247Sports slated him as a five-star prospect, the No. 1 safety and No. 15 overall in the 2019 class. Rivals pegged him as a four-star recruit, the No. 7 safety and No. 75 overall.
