Cal identified itself Monday as Notre Dame’s 10th known opponent for the 2022 football season.

The Golden Bears from Berkeley, Calif., will visit Notre Dame Stadium on Sept. 17, 2022, Cal announced Monday.

It will mark the fifth meeting of the two football programs and the first since a 41-8 home victory for Notre Dame in 1967. The Irish are 4-0 against Cal.

In 2022, the Irish will open the season Sept. 3 at Ohio State. The next two games will be at home against Marshall on Sept. 10 and Cal on Sept. 17. The Irish will also host Stanford (Oct. 15), Clemson (Nov. 5) and Boston College (TBA). Notre Dame’s road schedule includes Navy (Oct. 22), USC (Nov. 26), North Carolina (TBA) and Syracuse (TBA).

The Irish still need to schedule two more games for the 2022 regular season. The ACC has yet to announce the dates for the games against Boston College, North Carolina and Syracuse.

Cal improved its record each of the last two seasons under head coach Justin Wilcox. The Bears finished the 2019 season with an 8-5 record, in a tie for second place in the Pac-12 North and with a victory over Illinois in the Redbox Bowl.

In more immediate schedule news, Notre Dame announced Monday that its annual Blue-Gold Game will be played April 18 this year. Tickets for the intrasquad scrimmage, which will start at 12:30 p.m. EDT and be televised on NBC Sports Network, will go on sale Feb. 19.

Notre Dame players run onto the field before playing Virginia on Sept. 28, 2019.
