Notre Dame QB commit Tyler Buchner leaps into top 50 of new 2021 rankings from 247Sports
Turns out throwing for 4,474 yards and 53 touchdowns can help your recruiting ranking.
On Wednesday, 247Sports pushed Notre Dame quarterback commit Tyler Buchner up 53 spots in its latest 2021 class rankings following his prolific junior season at La Jolla (Calif.) The Bishop’s School.
The 6-foot-2, 212-pound Buchner now sits at No. 50 overall as the No. 3 dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 class. Buchner also rushed for 1,628 yards and 28 touchdowns as a junior after missing all but four plays of his sophomore season with a torn ACL in his left knee.
But Buchner isn’t Notre Dame’s top-ranked commit in the 2021 class on 247Sports. That distinction belongs to wide receiver Deion Colzie. 247Sports slates him as the No. 3 wide receiver and No. 44 overall. He moved up 11 spots in the overall rankings that were last updated in July.
Offensive tackle Blake Fisher stayed inside the top 100 as well. He moved up six spots to No. 82 overall as the No. 12 offensive tackle in the class.
The new Top 247 included three other Notre Dame verbal commits: wide receiver Lorenzo Styles Jr. (No. 21 WR, No. 134 overall), defensive tackle Gabriel Rubio (No. 9 DT, No. 146), and tight end Cane Berrong (No. 8 TE, No. 209). All three dropped from their rankings last July with Berrong receiving the biggest dive of 114 spots. Rubio and Styles lost 41 and 14 spots, respectively.
Offensive line commit Greg Crippen, previously ranked at No. 238, dropped out of the Top 247 to No. 258 as the No. 13 offensive guard. But Crippen remains one of seven four-star recruits in Notre Dame’s 2021 class, according to 247Sports. Only safety Justin Walters (No. 28 S, No. 478) has received a three-star recruit.
Notre Dame’s eight-man class ranks fourth nationally behind Ohio State, Clemson and Florida. Only Clemson (eight) has more four-star recruits than Notre Dame’s seven.
