UNLV announces 2022 football game at Notre Dame
Notre Dame will host UNLV on Oct. 22, 2022, the latter university announced on Tuesday.
The first meeting between both programs will result in UNLV earning a guaranteed $1.35 million, according to the university’s release. The Rebels have never played a college football game in Indiana and are the eleventh known opponent on the Irish 2022 schedule.
“Nothing says college football history more than playing a game at Notre Dame,” UNLV athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois said in a statement posted on the university’s website. “We are looking forward to taking our team and our fans to South Bend for what is sure to be a memorable experience.”
The 2022 season opens with Notre Dame traveling to Ohio State on Sept. 3. Marshall (Sept. 10) and Cal (Sept. 17) will come to South Bend the following two weeks. Notre Dame also hosts Stanford (Oct. 15), Clemson (Nov. 5) and Boston College (TBA), and will play at USC (Nov. 26), Navy (TBA), North Carolina (TBA) and Syracuse (TBA).
Navy had been tentatively slated for Oct. 22, but will now need to be rescheduled. The Irish will need to schedule one more game for 2022.
Marcus Arroyo served as Oregon’s offensive coordinator for three seasons before being named as UNLV’s new head football coach in December. The Rebels are coming off a 4-8 campaign and have not tallied more than five wins in a season since finishing 7-6 in 2013.
