Notre Dame football recruiting: Hunter suffers injury
On the second day of practice in San Antonio for the U.S. ArmyAll-American Bowl, Notre Dame WR commitment Torii Hunter Jr. sufferedan injury running passing routes and had to be hospitalized.
Hunter Jr.'s father, Detroit Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter, toldESPN.com that his son broke his femur
Hunter Jr. tweeted that he would have surgery on Wednesday morning andthat he would be able to start rehabbing the injury in three months.
The ESPN.com story reported the total recovery time of the injuryranging from six to eight months.
Hunter Jr., who plans to play football and baseball at Notre Dame,will miss his senior season of baseball at Prosper (Texas) High but isstill set to sign his letter of intent to Notre Dame on Feb. 6. Hecaught 71 passes for 1,235 yards and 14 touchdowns in his seniorfootball season this past fall.
He plans to attend Saturday's game that will feature six fellow NotreDame verbal commitments.
Larue decommits from USC
Another USC pledge backed out of his verbal commitment on Wednesday toconsider other schools.
While in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., practicing for Saturday's UnderArmour All-America Game, wide receiver Sebastian Larue tweeted that hedecommitted from USC.
Larue, a 5-11, 185-pound prospect from Santa Monica, Calif., has beentargeting an official visit to Notre Dame for the weekend of Jan. 25.
Larue also is slated to visit Texas A&M the week before his trip toSouth Bend. USC and Washington State join those two schools as acurrent top four for the wide receiver.
Larue ranks as the No. 6 athlete on 247Sports.com and the No. 123player overall. Rivals.com ranks Larue as the No. 32 wide receiver and241st in the 2013 class overall.
Larue is the fourth recruit to decommit from the Trojans in the 2013cycle. Three of those recruits have Notre Dame interest: Larue, safetyMax Redfield, who's set to announce during Friday's Under Armour Game,and defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes, who's planning to announce onsigning day.
