Notre Dame football recruiting: Tranquill to visit ND
An early August offer from Notre Dame has Drue Tranquill finding room in his schedule to visit campus.
Tranquill, a 2014 defensive prospect from Fort Wayne Carroll High, will make an unofficial visit on Saturday despite his verbal commitment to Purdue.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound recruit pledged to the Boilermakers on July 23. An offer from Notre Dame didn’t come until Aug. 2.
The Irish coaching staff has told Tranquill that he could project as an inside linebacker for Bob Diaco’s 3-4 defense. The Irish coaching staff had a chance to evaluate Tranquill when he camped at Notre Dame in June. 247Sports.com slates Tranquill as the No. 7 recruit in Indiana and the
No. 35 safety in the 2014 class. Rivals.com ranks him as the ninth-best player in the state.
The three-star prospect trains with Athletes With Purpose in Fort Wayne, the same group that worked with former Irish tight end Tyler Eifert and ND freshman linebacker Jaylon Smith.
2014 OG Mama still likes Irish
On Sunday, an elite offensive lineman prospect included Notre Dame in his top eight schools in the running for his eventual commitment.
Damien Mama, a 6-4, 370-pound recruit from St. John Bosco in Bellflower, Calif., named the following schools as his leaders on Twitter: Alabama, BYU, Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, UCLA, USC, Wisconsin.
The Irish already have four verbal commitments on the offensive line in the 2014 class, but the coaching staff might find room for an addition if Mama’s interest continues to rise.
247Sports slates Mama as the No. 2 offensive guard in the country and No. 35 overall. Rivals ranks Mama as the No. 5 offensive guard and No. 99 overall.
WR Blacknall picks Rutgers

The 6-3, 205-pound wideout from Manalapan, N.J., picked the local school over the likes of ND, LSU, Alabama and Ohio State.
Rivals ranks Blacknall as the No. 15 wide receiver in the 2014 class and No. 109 overall. 247Sports slates him at No. 17 for wide receivers and No. 133 overall.
