Notre Dame football recruiting: Irish send top targets 477 letters

Hopefully Nyles Morgan has a letter opener. The 2014 linebacker prospect received 477 letters in one shipment from Notre Dame on Tuesday night. The package, coined the #PotOfGold by the Irish coaching and recruiting staff, is Notre Dame’s latest effort to close the 2014 recruiting cycle with a bang. The 477 letters represent the number of Notre Dame players previously drafted in the NFL. Each piece of mail is differentiated by the name and draft number of the former Irish football player. Morgan shared a photo of the mail on Twitter. Tight end Dalton Schultz later shared a YouTube video of his 477 letters from the Irish. Notre Dame sent the package to 11 of its top targets last week and the rest should be delivered sometime this week. The mail explosion surpasses the previous unofficial record Notre Dame sent to defensive tackle Matt Elam last month. Then the Irish sent Elam 270 letters to represent the area code of his hometown, Elizabethtown, Ky. Elam had previously received 182 letters from Kentucky. The Irish coaching and recruiting staff created hype around the upcoming mailings last week on Twitter. They continued the conversation with tweets Tuesday night. Recruiting coordinator Tony Alford: "Love seeing the #PotOfGold being delivered in a mail bin! Many More to come #GoIrish" Head coach Brian Kelly: "#PotOfGold @NDFootball recruiting. #GoIrish"   Director of player personnel Dave Peloquin: "The @NDFootball ROC getting it done. #PotOfGold Looking forward to seeing where the next one lands."   Recruiting staffer JR Sandlin: "So it's begun... #PotOfGold"
