Junior college running back Jeremy Smith will not visit Notre Dame this weekend as originally planned, and it's unknown if he will take an official visit to campus. Smith, according to his coach, was visiting Louisville on Thursday and Friday and will visit Alabama on Saturday and Sunday.

Smith told the Tribune on Tuesday that he was visiting ND this weekend for its annual football banquet, but Tony Caviglia, Smith's coach at Fresno (Calif.) City College said Thursday night that the Notre Dame visit had been canceled.

Because recruiting is entering an NCAA dead period on Dec. 15, and because Smith, who played one season at Fresno City, will be a January enrollee, Caviglia was unsure if Smith would be able to visit ND.

"I just don't know how he's going to take the visit," Caviglia said. "I'm not exactly sure what they're thinking so I can't really comment."

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Smith ran for 1,735 yards last season at Fresno City after going lightly recruited coming out of Hammond (La.) High Magnet School. As of Tuesday, per Smith, Notre Dame had yet to officially offer Smith with the school continuing to wade through certain academic and NCAA matters because of his status as a junior college athlete.
