• Cornerback target Troy Pride Jr. will make his first visit to Notre Dame this weekend. ND Insider caught up with Pride before he was scheduled to arrive in South Bend on Saturday.

ND Insider: What made you want to get up to Notre Dame for a visit?

Troy Pride Jr.: “I wanted to honor the offer that they extended to me by taking a visit and going to see the place. You never know anything about a school until you experience a game day atmosphere and you see what the fans are about, you see what their campus is like. I definitely want to see that.”

NDI: What is your relationship with the coaching staff like?

Pride: “Very good. I talk to coach Denson and coach Lyght just about every day. We talk about different things. Me and coach Denson have been talking about a lot of Christian raps that we like. We talk about foods that we love to eat. All kinds of stuff. With coach Lyght, we discuss defensive schemes, positions and things I saw in the games and he saw in the games. We talk pretty regularly.”

NDI: Are you looking at other schools frequently or is Notre Dame the exception to that?

Pride: “It’s almost an exception because I am committed to Virginia Tech. Notre Dame, when they offered me, that caught me eye. When they told me how much money their school costs to go there, that really opened my eyes. I wanted to look at their school and see what it’s all about.”

NDI: How has the Virginia Tech coaching staff reacted to you showing interest in Notre Dame?

Pride: “Coach (Torrian) Gray, he actually told me early on that he knows I might become a hot commodity. He just asked me to always be honest with him and tell him what’s up. If I’m thinking something different, I should tell him first and keep him updated on stuff like that.”

NDI: How much have you watched Notre Dame this season?

Pride: “I was at the Clemson game when they played them. I’ve seen all of their games except the Texas one. I’ve been watching pretty close. Their corners, KeiVarae Russell and Cole Luke, I’ve been watching them.”

NDI: What do you like about the Notre Dame defense and how you’d fit into it?

Pride: “I definitely like the way they play. They’re going to get up in your face, and they’re gonna play you. I like that aspect of it. I haven’t really gone in-depth with their schemes. I want to fly around. I want to be everywhere."

NDI: What are the biggest things you want to learn about Notre Dame while on campus this weekend?

Pride: “I want to see the campus life. What can they do outside of football and outside of school? I want to see what kind of attractions they have, what kind of things their players can do outside of football season. I also want to check out their extensive academics. I’ve definitely heard great things about it. I’ve heard that it’s almost second to none. Their degree carries so much weight that it’s incredible. I want to see the Catholic aspect of it. I know that’s a big thing guys try to recruit against them on, but I want to see how it relates to the football players and to the students.” | 574-235-6214 | Twitter: @TJamesNDI
