Notre Dame commit recap: QB Ian Book efficient in victory

Eleven Notre Dame commits in the 2016 class took the field in playoff games last week. All eleven advanced with victories. Seasons ended for four more 2017 commits over the weekend. ND Insider recaps the action.

QB Ian Book | El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge 35, Monterey Trail 14: Book played efficiently in an Oak Ridge victory. He completed 17 of 20 passes for 232 yards and one touchdown. Book added 42 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Trojans (9-2) will face Cosumnes Oaks (8-3) Friday in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I quarterfinals.

CB Julian Love | La Grange (Ill.) Nazareth 35, Joliet Catholic 21: Love scored a pair of touchdowns in another Nazareth win. He totaled 11 rushes for 111 yards and one touchdown and three catches for 95 yards and one touchdown. He added six tackles for a loss and two forced fumbles on defense. The Roadrunners (10-2) will play St. Laurence (10-2) Saturday in the IHSA Class 5A semifinals.

DB Jalen Elliott | Chesterfield (Va.) L.C. Bird 42, Matoaca 6: Elliott and the L.C. Bird defense continued to dominate by allowing just 87 yards. He intercepted two passes, broke up another two and added four tackles. Elliott also threw a 35-yard touchdown pass. The Skyhawks (11-0) will take on Hermitage (11-0) Friday in the second round of VHSL Group 5A playoffs.

OL Tommy Kraemer | Cincinnati (Ohio) Elder 41, Hilliard Darby 13: Kraemer piled up 16 pancake blocks in the first half as the Elder rolled over Darby. The Panthers (9-3) will match-up with Hilliard Darby (11-1) Saturday in the OHSAA Division I Region 2 semifinals.

LB Jamir Jones | Rochester (N.Y.) Aquinas Institute 42, Orchard Park 7: Jones made plays on both sides of the ball in a blowout win for Aquinas. He tallied eight tackles, two tackles for a loss, one interception and one pass breakup on defense. Jones also caught six passes for 78 yards and a touchdown. The Little Irish (11-0) will play Liverpool (10-1) Saturday in the NYSPHSAA Class AA semifinals.

WR Chase Claypool | Abbotsford (B.C.) Secondary 58, Pitt Meadows 8: Claypool gave quarterback a try and threw two touchdown passes and completed all four of his passes. He also ran for a touchdown in the blowout victory. The Panthers will face John Barsby in the Class AA Subway Bowl quarterfinals.

DE Julian Okwara | Charlotte (N.C.) Ardrey Kell 16, South Mecklenburg 9: Okwara got a little playoff revenge after losing to South Mecklenburg the previous week. Okwara totaled four tackles and one tackle for a loss in the win. The Knights will take on Hough (11-1) Friday in the second round of the NCHSAA Class 4A playoffs.

LS John Shannon | Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola 34, Homewood-Flossmoor 28: Shannon recorded six tackles and forced and a recovered a fumble in the Loyola victory. The Ramblers (12-0) will match-up with Palatine (10-2) Saturday in the IHSA Class 8A semifinals.

OL Parker Boudreaux | Orlando (Fla.) Bishop Moore Catholic 38, Palm Bay 7: Boudreaux and the Bishop Moore offense overpowered Palm Bay in the second half with 24 points. The Hornets (10-1) will play Merritt Island (8-3) Friday in the FHSAA Class 5A regional semifinals.

S D.J. Morgan | Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco 72, Corona 7: Morgan and the St. John Bosco defense suffocated Corona as the Braves opened up a 59-0 halftime lead. Bosco (11-0) will face Loyola (9-2) Friday in the CIF Southern Section Pac 5 Division quarterfinals.

CB Donte Vaughn | Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven 39, Mount Juliet 21: Vaughn and the Whitehaven defense forced four turnovers in a playoff victory. The Tigers (11-1) will take on Wilson Central (6-6) Friday in the TSSAA Class 6A quarterfinals.

TE Brock Wright | Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair 28, Eisenhower 36: Wright caught a four-yard touchdown pass as Cy-Fair opened up a 28-10 lead before a heartbreaking second half. The Bobcats (6-5) ended Wright’s junior season with a loss in the first round of the UIL Conference 6A Division 1 playoffs.

OL Josh Lugg | Wexford (Pa.) North Allegheny 17, Pittsburgh Central Catholic 31: Lugg’s junior season came to an end against Notre Dame recruiting targets Damar Hamlin and David Adams in the WPIAL Class AAAA quarterfinals. North Allegheny (9-2) rushed for 218 yards but couldn’t overcome three fumbles.

DE Robert Beal | Norcross (Ga.) High 14, South Forsyth 20: Beal had two tackles for a loss as his junior season for Norcross (7-4) ended with a loss in the first round of the GHSA Class AAAAAA playoffs.

OL Dillan Gibbons | St. Petersburg (Fla.) Northside Christian 14, Cambridge Christian 19: Gibbons helped clear the way for 383 yards of offense, but Northside Christian couldn’t convert the production into enough points. His junior season ended for the Mustangs (8-2) in a FHSAA Class 2A region semifinal.
