Notre Dame commit recap: State titles for three Irish pledges

Three Notre Dame commits ended their senior seasons with state championships over the weekend. ND Insider recaps the performances of eight Irish pledges who took the field last week.

CB Julian Love | La Grange (Ill.) Nazareth Academy 42, Lincoln-Way West 21: Love didn’t score, but he impacted the game in a number of ways as Nazareth Academy won the IHSA Class 5A state championship. He recorded four tackles and one interception on defense as the Roadrunners (12-2) built a 42-0 lead. He added nine carries for 53 yards and three catches for seven yards on offense.

LB Jamir Jones | Rochester (N.Y.) Aquinas Institute 44, Saratoga Springs 19: Jones led a dominating defensive effort as Aquinas took home a state championship. Jones recorded 12 tackles, four tackles for a loss, one sack and one forced fumble as the Little Irish (13-0) surged to a 44-0 lead in the third quarter. Jones also added a 32-yard catchs in the NYSPHSAA Class AA state final.

LS John Shannon | Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola 41, Marist 0: A perfect season ended with a shutout for Shannon and the Loyola defense. Shannon, who also plays linebacker for the Ramblers, finished his senior season with the sixth shutout of the year. Loyola (14-0) allowed just 73 yards in the IHSA Class 8A state championship game. Shannon also snapped for five successful extra points – one kick was blocked.

WR Chase Claypool | Abbotsford (B.C.) Secondary 50, Langley 29: Claypool continued his prolific season with four touchdown catches in the Class AA Subway Bowl semifinals. He also caught an interception on defense. Abbostford will take on Carson Graham in the Class AA Subway Bowl championship.

OL Parker Boudreaux | Orlando (Fla.) Bishop Moore Catholic 51, Hallandale 46: Boudreaux helped pave the way for 463 rushing yards in the Bishop Moore victory. He piled up 12 pancake blocks in the process. The Hornets (12-1) will take on Tampa Jesuit (12-0) in the FHSAA Class 5A state semifinals.

S D.J. Morgan | Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco 63, Bishop Amat 10: Morgan and the St. John Bosco secondary kept USC-bound wide receivers Tyler Vaughns and Trevon Sidney out of the end zone in a commanding win. By the fourth quarter, Bosco forced a running clock, which requires a 35-point lead, for the 12th time this season. The Braves (13-0) will face Centennial (13-0) and Notre Dame wide receiver target Javon McKinley in the CIF Southern Section Pac 5 Division championship.

QB Ian Book | El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge 18, Elk Grove 30: Book’s senior season came to a close with a loss in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I semifinals. He completed 24 of his 38 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. He added 25 rushing yards for Oak Ridge (10-3).

CB Donte Vaughn | Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven 13, Ravenwood 20: Vaughn and the Whitehaven defense only allowed one touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to keep the season going. Ravenwood got back into the game with a kick return for a touchdown and won it with a 23-yard touchdown run. Vaughn’s senior season ended with Whitehaven (12-2) in the TSSAA Class 6A semifinals.
