Wide receivers coach Mike Denbrock on why McKinley was such a priority for Notre Dame: "His skill set that he brings to the table, and you guys know by looking at our roster, we like long receivers that can run. He fit the profile of that type of dynamic athlete that not only had size but the ability to do something after he had the football in his hands. That obviously piqued our interest.
"Then when you sit down with him for five seconds and you start to get to know him and you talk to his family, you knew what a great fit he would be for this university in particular. Notre Dame fit him as well as he fit what we like offensively and what we like to do. He was very near if not at the top of the list from the beginning of the recruiting process all the way through."
