ND Insider caught up with 2018 linebacker Dallas Gant after he received an offer from Notre Dame following the Irish Invasion. Ohio State offered Gant following its camp on Friday, a day before Notre Dame. He returned to Ohio State on Monday for another visit. Gant also plans to attend a camp at Michigan State this summer.

• LB DALLAS GANT, 6-3, 208; TOLEDO (OHIO) ST. JOHN'S.

247Sports ranking: Four stars, No. 1 outside linebacker.

ND Insider: How did Notre Dame let you know that you received an offer?

Gant: “I gave (linebackers) coach (Mike) Elston a call after the camp while we were on the road headed home. That’s when he offered me.”

NDI: What was your reaction?

Gant: “It was a very exciting moment knowing I could play for the Irish. My family is very excited. They loved the campus. I love the campus. There’s a great atmosphere there. Great people there.”

NDI: What was your impression of the junior day before the camp?

Gant: “It was good. I was able to see a lot more than I’ve seen before. I’ve only been down there one other time for a game last year against UMass. I didn’t get to see as much then as I saw on Saturday. It was really interesting to see all the facilities and campus and all that good stuff.”

NDI: How did you think you performed at the camp?

Gant: “Pretty well. They told me I moved pretty well. Coach Elston taught us what we were going to be doing when we were at the junior day. He showed us some film of the actual players doing it so I knew what I was doing when I got out there.”

NDI: How much does it help to get to know what Mike Elston is like as a coach by working out for him at a camp?

Gant: “That was very helpful. It’s great to play for the coach that you’d play for if you went there. That was really helpful, and he’s also a great person. I got to know him during the junior day more. He’s a great person and a great coach.”

NDI: What’s it mean to receive an Ohio State offer and Notre Dame offer in the same week?

Gant: “It was great. It’s fantastic. Getting an Ohio State offer and then Notre Dame next day, it’s great to know I could play for either of those schools if I decided to. Both are great schools. It’s very exciting for me and my family. It still is. I’m still in shock.”

NDI: What’s your relationship with the coaching staff at Ohio State?

Gant: “I love Ohio State too. They have great people as well. Great coaches. I love coach (Luke) Fickell, who is the linebackers coach. He helps recruit my area as well as coach (Greg Studrawa). I love their campus as well. It’s an elite program as well as Notre Dame. It’s going to be very exciting to see which school I choose. There are other schools involved, but those are obviously going to be high up there.”

NDI: What have you done as a linebacker to earn an offers from programs like Notre Dame and Ohio State?

Gant: “I move really well. I’m comfortable in space. It’s shown a lot in my film. I think that’s what they like most about me. When they see me on campus, they realize I can move pretty well.”
