Notre Dame commit recap: Avery Davis tosses three more TDs
Seasons are starting to end for some of Notre Dame’s commits with playoffs starting up in states around the country. ND Insider recaps the 19 Irish pledges in action last week.
QB Avery Davis | Cedar Hill (Texas) High 28, South Grand Prairie 21: Davis accounted for three of Cedar Hill’s four touchdowns in the win. Davis completed 14 of his 23 passes (61 percent) for 231 yards and three touchdowns. The scores came from 45, 22 and 55 yards out for Cedar Hill (7-2).
WR Michael Young | Destrehan (La.) High 48, Thibodaux 33: Young caught a 46-yard touchdown pass in the Destrehan victory. He finished with three catches for 68 yards in the game. Destrehan (9-0) will have to wait a week to learn who its opponent will be in the first round of the LHSAA Class 5A playoffs.
TE Cole Kmet | Arlington Heights (Ill.) St. Viator 24, Rockford Boyland 13: Kmet scored the go-ahead touchdown on a two-yard run on fourth down in the third quarter of St. Viator’s upset win. Kmet caught two passes for 92 yards and added six tackles and one tackle for a loss on defense. St. Viator (6-4) will play at Lake Forest on Friday in the second round of the IHSA Class 6A playoffs.
RB CJ Holmes | Cheshire (Conn.) Academy 35, Phillips Exeter Academy 7: Holmes averaged 10 yards per carry in the Cheshire Academy (5-2) victory. He rushed six times for 60 yards and one touchdown, all in the first half.
LB Pete Werner | Indianapolis Cathedral 41, Lawrence North 38 (OT): The Cathedral defense didn’t prevent a lot of scoring, but it came up with a stop when it needed one to force overtime. Werner recorded a sack late in the fourth quarter to prevent Lawrence North for attempting a game-winning field goal. Cathedral (6-4) will take on Lawrence Central on Friday for an IHSAA Class 6A sectional title.
OL Robert Hainsey | Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy 34, Long Beach Poly 0: IMG Academy made the trip to California and recorded another blowout win. Hainsey and the IMG offensive line helped clear the way for four rushing touchdowns. Sophomore running back Trey Sanders rushed for 203 yards to keep the Ascenders (8-0) perfect on the season.
LB Drew White | Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas 49, Blanche Ely 0: White tallied six tackles and a pass deflection in the win for St. Thomas Aquinas (6-2). White and the defense recorded their third shutout of the season.
TE Brock Wright | Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair 35, Cypress Falls 6: Wright caught two passes for 23 yards as Cy-Fair (7-2) rolled. The Bobcats rushed for 205 yards with the help of Wright’s blocking.
OT Josh Lugg | Wexford (Pa.) North Allegheny 47, Pine-Richland 10: Lugg and the North Allegheny offensive line paved the way for 253 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. The Tigers (8-2) will learn their WPIAL playoff pairing Monday night.
WR Jordan Pouncey | Winter Park (Fla.) High 9, Spruce Creek 14: The Spruce Creek defense kept Pouncey in check to beat Winter Park (6-3). Pouncey was limited to four catches for 44 yards and four carries for 32 yards. He added four tackles on defense.
S Isaiah Robertson | Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley 28, Glenbard West 31: A 31-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining knocked Robertson and Neuqua Valley (8-2) out of the IHSA Class 8A playoffs in the first round.
LB David Adams and DT Kurt Hinish | Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic 42, Penn Hills 13: Central Catholic rushed for 435 yards as a team and Adams got in on the fun. The linebacker rushed nine times for 88 yards and a touchdown. Adams, Hinish and the Central Catholic defense have only allowed 20 points in the last four games combined. The Vikings (9-1) will learn their WPIAL playoff pairing Monday night.
LB Bo Bauer | Erie (Pa.) Cathedral Prep 28, Canisius 24: Bauer and the Cathedral Prep defense made a pair of stops in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory. The Ramblers (10-0) finished the regular season unbeaten for the fourth time in five years. They will receive two weeks off before starting the playoffs.
DE Justin Ademilola and DT Jayson Ademilola | Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep 47, Lincoln 6: The St. Peter’s Prep defense allowed only one touchdown as the Marauders (6-2) cruised to victory. Jayson Ademilola was credited with five tackles.
OL Dillan Gibbons | Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic 41, Cardinal Mooney 28: Gibbons and the Central Catholic offensive line cleared the way for 326 yards. Gibbons added one tackle on defense for Central Catholic (8-1).
DT Darnell Ewell | Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor 70, Maury 9: Ewell and the Lake Taylor defense forced Maury into negative 20 rushing yards for the game. The Titans (8-1) didn’t allow a point until the fourth quarter of the blowout win.
DE Jonathon MacCollister | Orlando (Fla.) Bishop Moore 42, Eustis 14: MacCollister and the Bishop Moore defense allowed only 106 yards to Eustis in the win. The Hornets (8-1) have won six straight.
