Ovie Oghoufo has been committed to Notre Dame since July, but he’s still experiencing first impressions.

While attending Saturday’s Blue-Gold Game in South Bend, Oghoufo took in his first look at the new Irish defense.

“They started out slow a little bit at first, but then they definitely came along at the end,” said Oghoufo, a 2018 linebacker recruit. “I really enjoyed the blitz packages (defensive coordinator Mike) Elko installed. I was watching (linebackers coach Clark) Lea pregame with the linebackers. I really liked how he prepared them for the game. It was pretty good.”

Elko and Lea inherited a pair of linebacker commits in Notre Dame’s 2018 class with Oghoufo and Bo Bauer. But the Irish aren’t settling on only two players at the position. Four-star linebacker Dallas Gant was one of Notre Dame’s most important visitors on Saturday.

Oghoufo made talking to Gant a priority. He also spent time with four-star wide receiver target Chase Cota.

“Those two are really special,” Oghoufo said. “Dallas is a playmaker. I like the way Chase carries himself. I feel like both of them could be really good additions to our class.”

Will either recruit end up in Notre Dame’s class? Oghoufo’s not ready to make any predictions yet.

“I’m still working on it,” he said. “I don’t know how I feel yet. I’m still trying.”
