Notre Dame still lacks a verbal commitment at cornerback in the 2018 recruiting class.

Yet the only cornerback to have previously committed to Notre Dame's 2018 class wants to take another look at the Irish.

Kalon Gervin, who was committed to Notre Dame for nearly three months, told ND Insider he wants to make an official visit to South Bend.

In a text message, Gervin said he is waiting for defensive backs coach Todd Lyght to give him a "thumbs up" for the Georgia game Sept. 9. Gervin said the two have had "off and on" communication as of late.

The 5-foot-10, 179-pound product of Detroit Cass Tech dropped his commitment to Notre Dame in May. In June, he named a top five of Louisville, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oregon and Virginia Tech.

Gervin, a four-star recruit, then made trips to Oregon, Alabama and Virginia Tech this summer. Now the Irish may be the first team to host him for an official visit. He's scheduled for an official visit to Oklahoma on Sept. 16.

Rivals ranks Gervin as the No. 14 cornerback in the 2018 class. 247Sports slates him as the No. 18 cornerback.
