Former Virginia CB commit DJ Brown signs with Notre Dame

Notre Dame beat Virginia on Sept. 12, 2015, thanks to a desperate 39-yard touchdown heave from DeShone Kizer to Will Fuller with 12 seconds left.

The Irish haven't stopped beating the Cavaliers ever since.

In the 2017 recruiting cycle, it was athletic rover Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah that dropped his Virginia pledge and ultimately signed with the Irish.

On Wednesday, DJ Brown followed suit.

Brown — a 6-foot-1, 183-pound cornerback — tweeted his de-commitment from Virginia last Tuesday, the same day he wrapped up an official visit in South Bend. The consensus three-star corner announced a final three that included Notre Dame, Northwestern and California.

Eight days later, he became the sixth defensive back signee in Notre Dame's 2018 class.

"DJ's an outstanding talent," said CBS Sports Network recruiting analyst Tom Lemming. "He's a big-time ball player. He has good size, good length, good experience and good production. He's a very good late-season catch."

This particular catch, which participated alongside two Notre Dame defensive signees — defensive back Houston Griffith and linebacker Jack Lamb — at the Under Armour All-American game in January, was also a teammate of Irish freshman defensive end Kofi Wardlow at Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College High.

Brown joins defensive backs Griffith, Derrik Allen, Paul Moala, Joe Wilkins Jr. and Tariq Bracy in Notre Dame's 2018 class. He also touted offers from Clemson, Arizona, Boston College, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and more.

Ranked as the No. 67 cornerback nationally by Rivals and the No. 70 corner by 247Sports, Brown becomes just the third signee from Washington, D.C., in the Brian Kelly era, joining Wardlow last cycle and cornerback Devin Butler in 2013.

And, for the record, Notre Dame will look to beat Virginia again when the Irish — Brown included — host the Hoos inside Notre Dame Stadium in 2019.
