Four-star QB Max Duggan next to visit Notre Dame
Notre Dame didn’t wait long to resume its search for a quarterback for the 2019 recruiting class.
The Irish will host Max Duggan, a four-star recruit from Council Bluffs (Iowa) Lewis Central, on Friday. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound quarterback previously visited Notre Dame last April.
Last week, four-star quarterback Cade McNamara announced he would no longer be sticking to his verbal commitment to the Irish. He had been committed to the Irish since July.
That could open the door for Duggan, who has yet to receive an offer from the Irish. Notre Dame had offered only seven quarterbacks in the 2019 class with McNamara in the class. A string of new offers should be in the works.
Duggan, who already has offers from the likes of Ohio State, Georgia, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota, could be a prime candidate.
“He’s probably one of the fastest-rising quarterbacks in the country,” said CBS Sports Network recruiting analyst Tom Lemming. “He’s a very good athlete and has a good arm. He compares very favorably to Cade McNamara.
“I don’t think they’re losing anything if they got Duggan instead of McNamara.”
Duggan’s junior season was interrupted with a broken thumb and a broken leg at various parts of the year. He completed 54 of his 95 passes (56.8 percent) for 748 yards and eight touchdowns with one interception. He also rushed for 551 yards and nine touchdowns on 96 carries.
247Sports slates Duggan as the No. 4 dual-threat quarterback in the 2019 class. Rivals ranks him as the No. 7 pro-style QB.
Notre Dame has signed at least one quarterback in each of the nine recruiting classes under head coach Brian Kelly.
