The Seminoles aren't exactly quietly moving away from a tough 2020 into the 2021 season.

Florida State will open its season with arguably one of the two or three most famous college football programs ever — the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, currently ranked No. 7 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

The 'Noles went 3-6 in 2020 while trying to negotiate COVID-19, and as a result, had one of the wilder seasons among college football's top tier of teams. In September, Coach Mike Norvell had to quarantine for the game against Miami, which FSU lost 52-10. Three consecutive games were canceled toward the end of the season and the Seminoles went a month without playing.

One of the Seminoles' six losses in 2020 came in South Bend, Ind., to the Fighting Irish, 42-26. Notre Dame returns the two running backs that ran for more than 100 yards apiece against FSU: Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree. Though quarterback Ian Book has moved onto the NFL, the Irish are hoping Wisconsin transfer Jack Coan can step in.

The Seminoles also have a new quarterback in UCF transfer McKenzie Milton, but the job isn't his yet. There is still a battle going between Milton and incumbent Jordan Travis that is so close, the depth chart doesn't list a starter at the position. Milton isn't the only transfer making waves with FSU; six total transfers are listed as starters, including Milton.
